Edifice on a legacy of distinctive treasures of generational achievements, it is our mission to serve as a model for effective teaching and learning in a dynamic educational environment where students achieve their maximum potential and gain a love of lifelong learning; teachers excel in pedagogy, stimulating young minds to extend excellence beyond the classroom providing every student with an ideal environment to grow and excel from the time students begin their education drive.
The vision of the education program of Nekemte Diocese is to be a leading school system in the catchment area of the Vicariate, producing student graduates of noble mind who blend naturally Christian values, traditions, culture, and democratic ideals to contribute proactively in their homes, families, communities, national, and international spheres.
The education program constitutes the largest intervention of the Vicariate. Since its commencement, 10 primary schools, 1 secondary school, and over 35 kindergartens have been established across diverse socio-economic and socio-cultural environments. Approximately 70% are rural schools operating in areas where many children would otherwise lack access to education.
Established prior to modern government education structures in many areas, these schools build deep community integration through historical connections, character formation, and compassionate outreach to the underserved alongside complementary socio-pastoral work.
Ensure the formation of knowledgeable, ethical, and socially responsible citizens through enhanced leadership, public policy advocacy, equitable access, and robust community participation.
"Children and youth are to be helped to develop their physical, moral, and intellectual talents harmoniously, acquire a perfect sense of responsibility and right use of freedom, and participate actively in social life."
Msgr. Herman Wilhelm Teuban, inspired by Fr. Fikremariam Gemechu and the Comboni Missionary Sisters, generated the idea of establishing a school in Nekemte town. Thus, a kindergarten school was opened in 1973 G.C. by renting a house in 07 Kebele.
The school was built in 1975 G.C. and started offering classes from KG to Grade 1 in 02, Darge Kebele, where the school is located today. By 1982 G.C., the school was upgraded up to Grade 6. In 1989, the society discussed with the Comboni Sisters and other concerned bodies to add additional grades, successfully opening Grades 7 and 8.
Following continuous requests from parents and community interest driven by the high quality of education and discipline, Catholic Kidane Mihret School upgraded to a secondary school (Grades 9 and 10) in the year 2005. Later, in 2013–2014, the school was further upgraded to a preparatory school level (Grades 11 and 12).
